There are flavors that go with fall. Apple pie. Pumpkin spice. Cinnamon. We usually find those flavors in drinks and baked goods, but there’s no reason why dinner can’t use those warm and cozy flavors, too. To incorporate some fall flavors into dinner, let’s start with a meat that’s complemented by sweetness: pork. Pork chops served with apple sauce are pretty common, so we thought we’d find a way to get apple cider involved. So head to your favorite auburn deli and butcher shop to grab some pork chops and try this recipe!
This list of ingredients might look a little long, but trust us, it’s easy to make! Here’s what you’ll need:
Get a medium or large skillet, big enough to hold all the pork chops, that you can cover. Heat the olive oil over medium heat and then brown the pork chops on both sides. In a bowl, combine the garlic, mustard, honey (or maple syrup), apple pie spice, salt and pepper, and thyme. Stir in the apple cider and then pour the mixture over the pork chops. Bring the heat down to medium-low and cover your skillet to cook the pork chops. This usually takes about 4 or 5 minutes, but it might take a little longer if the pork chops are thick. Once they are cooked (a meat thermometer should read 145°) remove the pork chops from the skillet and let them stand for 5 minutes.
Turn the heat back up to medium-high and let the cider mixture in the skillet come to a boil. Stir it constantly until it thickens. To make this process easier, mix cornstarch and water and add them to the skillet. After a minute or two, the mixture should thicken into a sauce. Pour it over the pork chops, sprinkle the fresh parsley on top, and enjoy!
