The cold air is upon us in New England, which means it is comfort food season kickoff. And, what better way to welcome the season than with National Chili Month! October is here, and as your favorite Leicester butcher, we’re thinking chili. Fresh, homemade, spicy, mild, whatever it may be – it’s the best chili ever season.
At D’Erricos Market, we’re used to stepping outside the box to provide our customers with unique, flavorful creations. From our handmade burgers to the best Italian sandwich in town, we’re cooking up on the best! For this article, we’re taking a step back to highlight our customers, your kitchen, and your favorite chili recipe.
While traditional chili recipes incorporate various meats, some prefer to leave it aside. While we don’t recommend this method, it comes down to preference and diet. For this sake of this article, and being your local butcher shop, we’re sticking to meat.
However, when it comes to chili recipes, the choices are vast in meat selection. From freshly ground beef to mouth-watering roast beef, we’re getting hungry just thinking of the possibilities! With a little research, you’ll find that many classic recipes rely upon ground beef as the primary ingredient. While there is nothing wrong with ground beef, pushing the limits sometimes proves to be quite satisfying! For example, taking advantage of the leftover roast from the night before often proves to be the missing link to the recipe.
With prepared (or leftover) beef, you’re enhancing your recipe’s flavoring with seasonings and preparations already in place. Obviously, you’ll want to use judgment here on the age of the meat and who the chili is being served. A family roast is best kept within the family!
We know you’re excited – we are too. Chili month and pork month are happening all at the same time. Whoever planned this one was a pure genius.
